RAIN AND FOG ARBITER IN ABORTED 6 HOURS FIA-WEC RACE HO-PIN TUNG AND JACKIE CHAN RACING THIRD AT FUJI
Apalling wheather conditions, with heavy rain and fog dominated the Japanese stop over of the FIA-WEC circus last weekend. Ho-Pin Tung and his team Jackie Chan DC Racing were very fast in the soaking wet free practises, but did not manage to take the same pace into qualifying. Seventh overall and third in LM P 2 was the score of the #38 Jackie Chang DC Racing x Jota Sport in qualifying. The 6 hours race started behind the safety car, drivers had to deal with heavy rain and limited vision due to intense fog. After a quarter of an hour spent behind the safety car, the race got underway for real. Many red flags, slow zones, safety cars situations made the race into a lottery. After two third decreasing visibilty made racing no longer sensible and the 6 hours of Fuji was aborted. Ho-Pin Tung, Oliver Jarvis and Thomas Laurent brought their # 38 Oreca third in LM P 2 across the finish line. The team is still in the lead of the championship.
#38 Ho-Pin Tung: “After dominating all the free practices as a team, we were expecting a lot more from qualifying. After qualifying we were pretty confident we would have a good race car, which unfortunately we didn’t seem to have. Having said that, due to great team work, great strategy and nice on track battles we managed to move our way to the lead in very difficult and treacherous conditions. The moment the race was red flagged for final time and ended was unfortunate for us. Bringing the car home third is definitely not what we came for, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be back aiming hard in Shanghai for a top spot in our home race.”
