Ho-Pin Tung 5th and sixth in laborious Carrera Cup Asia-weekend in Japan
Once again wheather conditions dominated the race weekend in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, this time at Fuji, in Japan. This weekends´ two races resulted for Chinese racing driver Ho-Pin Tung in a sixth place in the first race and a fifth place in the second one.
´It was a bad luck weekend,´ Ho-Pin concluded afterwards. ´First free practise was aborted due to the rain, the second one cancelled entirely and the third practise was merely enough te find a good balance in the car.´ Qualification was no better than P9 for the Chinese of the Budweiser Team Absolute Racing.
´First race was not less than bizar, ´Ho-Pin Tung concluded. ´Everyone was on slicks in the formation lap, prior to the start. On the grid, only seconds before the light should go out, starting procedure was aborted, again due to the rain. I swichted to rain tyres, but this proved to be the wrong decision. The track was drying and I had to complete my race on rain tyres. I finished sixth . I was quickest of the rain tyre drivers, but what does that mean…´, Ho-Pin stated disappointed. ´Second race I could fight some interesting battles, but I was unable to close the gap with the guys on front. Again I finished sixth, which later became fifth.
Now all focus will be on the Le Mans 24 hours race, next weekend, where Ho-Pin Tung again will compete in the LMP-2 class, in which he did very well last year.
