Victory for Ho-Pin Tung in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
A well deserved result it sure was for young Chinese racing driver Ho-Pin Tung when he claimed first place in this weekends´ first race in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia-class at the Inje Circuit, Korea. Second race brought fifth place, after Ho-Pin Tung overtook brilliantly Keita Sawa using the outside line. Severe run off of the tyres made him stick to this position. The young Chinese also competed in the Le Mans Series Asia race at the same circuit. He scored pole position and finished second in a rain socked race.
The victory by Ho-Pin Tung was the result of ´a crazy race´. Ho-Pin started from sixth place on the grid. ´There was a lot of close racing, to put it mildly and a crash by Earl Bamber and Martin Ragginger. Ragginger went off, but managed to rejoin while Bamber spinned. This spin forced Imperiatori to brake hard. Ho-Pin managed to avoid most of the disaster, although he was hit from behind, which caused damage to his right rear wheel and the wing end plate of the rear spoiler. After the turmoil he found himself at second position. He fought hard to preserve his second place. After the race it appeared that Martin Ragginger had jump started the race and was punished with a 30 seconds penalty.
After his hectic and successful weekend Ho-Pin Tung both happy and releaved. ´The Budweiser Kamlung Team did very well and all the hard work was a tremendous support for me. It was a difficult and crazy race, it was all very tight.´ Ho-Pin now enjoyes a well deserved holiday, wich brings him to the US, where he also will appear at sponsors´events. Singapore is the next stop in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Series, where the Marina Bay circuit is the place of action in the support program of the Singapore Grand Prix.
