Ho-Pin Tung mounts rostrum again in second FIA-WEC race at Spa Francorchamps
With its second podium finish in the first two races of the FIA-WEC championship 2017 the Jackie Chan DC Racing team kept its lead in the championship standings in the LM P2 category. Ho-Pin Tung and team mates Oliver Jarvis and Thomas Laurent claimed third place at the podium after an eventful 6 hours race at Spa Francorchamps. The #38 Oreca ensured the Chinese team to arrive at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours in a month time as the LM P2 championship leaders. The #38 car had to start from the back of the field after a difficult qualifying.
Ho-Pin Tung : ‘After our misfortune in qualifying Friday due to a gearbox issue that prevented us from doing a proper lap time, we started from the back of the LM P2 grid. Oliver Jarvis had a really tough job to go out first on the qualifying set of tyres. That was part of the strategy, to be really aggressive, to hopefully have pace later on during the race. He managed it really well’.
‘I went in the car for a double stint and everything was going according to plan. We lost a bit of time when I had a misunderstanding with an LM P1 car and I ran wide in the ‘Bruxelles’ hairpin and spun. The car was really good and we were able to gradually make our way through the field and to the podium. I think we can be very happy with all the hard work by everyone here at Jackie Chan DC Racing and Jota Sport. With one win and one third we’re leading the championship and we know where are the areas to improve. We’ll be pushing hard at Le Mans ’.
