Ho-Pin Tung to defend China’s honour in A1GP
2008-09-22
Chinese racing driver Ho-Pin Tung will race again for the honour of China in the new edition of the A1-GP Championship, starting 5th of October. This season’s first venue will be the Zandvoort circuit, The Netherlands, and already the second race will be held in China. Ho-Pin Tung, from Chinese descent and raised in The Netherlands, gave China its first ever podium finish in the A1-GP-championship, two years ago at the Grand Prix of Australia. It is not yet defined how many races Ho-Pin will be racing for China. Cong Fu Cheng, also responsible for a podium finish in A1-GP, will also found behind the wheel of the racing car that the China A1GP-team will field.
Ho-Pin Tung (25) competed two seasons in the GP2-racing class, scoring his best result when he finished second at the difficult Monaco-track. He finds it a great honour that China has asked him again to represent his fatherland in the nations cup, for the second time. ’Although I had a tough season, with 31 races and several test sessions, I do look forward to do as many of the A1GP-races in the forthcoming winter season as possible.’
The difference with the previous seasons is mainly the car. ‘Compared to the A1GP-car that was used in the first three seasons this Ferrari bred car is a huge step forward. It will be much quicker. I have not been able to test the car yet, but I know that it will come very close to the performance of my GP2-cars. It is just great that I will be there right from the beginning. That feels much better than stepping in halfway of the season. And racing at Zandvoort is of course thrilling for me. I know the circuit well and I can already feel the magic atmosphere I remember from the Formula 3 Masters races I drove there. I go for a maximum result for China, for my fans in China and in Europe and of course for my self,’ says the happy and confident racing driver.
