Following yesterday’s accident in the GP2 Feature race at the Hungaroring, Ho-Pin Tung had another MRI-scan this morning. The scan confirmed a very small fracture on the lumbar vertebrae. No surgery is required and his recovery period is not expected to be a long time. Ho-Pin will remain in the Budapest army hospital until Wednesday and will then go home to rest and recover. A further medical examination is scheduled for two weeks time to assess his recovery.
“I’d like to thank the team, which has supported me in the past few hours, and has done everything possible to make this difficult experience less painful. The doctors have found that one of my vertebrae is cracked, which is pretty painful, but requires rest more than anything else. My abdominal pains were very acute but they’ve almost disappeared, that’s reassuring. I’ll walk out of the hospital on Wednesday, I am pretty sure. Jules (Bianchi) too was injured in the accident and I’d like to wish him a speedy recovery.”
